What is Kama Type?
A voice dictation app: you speak, and the field receives already-cleaned text — no filler words, self-corrections, or dead pauses.
How much does it cost?
The app itself is free, with no subscription. Speech is transcribed by Groq on your own key, and the free tier goes a long way: up to 8 hours of audio a day, reset daily.
Where do I get a Groq key?
Sign up at console.groq.com and create an API key under API Keys. Paste it into the app's settings on first launch.
I'm in Russia — can I sign up for Groq?
Yes. Sign-up works and the free tier needs no card — that is how the app runs every day. The free tier goes a long way: up to 8 hours of audio and 2,000 transcriptions a day, reset daily. If you ever need paid volume, write to support@kamatype.app — we'll tell you what works, and we'll publish separate instructions later.
Why does Windows warn me during install?
The installer isn't signed with a paid code-signing certificate, so Windows shows a SmartScreen warning. Click "More info", then "Run anyway".
Why isn't there a macOS version?
Kama Type is a personal project at an early stage, and there isn't yet the bandwidth to support another platform. Today there is a Windows app and an Android keyboard.
Where does my speech go?
Audio is sent straight from your device to Groq using your own API key — it never passes through a Kama Type server.
Does Kama Type work offline?
No. Speech recognition runs in Groq's cloud, so dictation needs an internet connection.
How do I report a problem?
Use the feedback form inside the app — the message goes straight to the developer. You can also email support@kamatype.app.
How is the time saved calculated?
The words of the finished text are divided by 40 words per minute — the average typing speed — and the actual length of your recording is subtracted from the result. The difference is the saving. The baseline typing speed is fixed, so this is an estimate, not a measurement of your personal speed.
Where is the dictation history stored?
In a local database on the device itself. You can search it, copy from it and clear it completely; on Android you can also delete a single entry. It is never synchronised: the project has no server to send it to.
What are snippets and how do I trigger one?
They are boilerplate: a signature, bank details, the paragraph you retype every day. You define a trigger, and the phrase "add signature" inserts the whole snippet. Without the command word "add" the trigger does not fire, so ordinary speech containing "signature" inserts nothing.
Why does the Android version need special permissions?
The floating button needs to draw over other apps, and inserting text into someone else's field needs the accessibility service. Without them you can only dictate through the keyboard. The permissions are used for nothing else.
